📱 App Installation

Installing on iPhone/iPad

  1. 1. Open Safari and go to carvaluescout.com
  2. 2. Tap the Share button (square with arrow)
  3. 3. Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen"
  4. 4. Tap "Add" in the top right corner
  5. 5. The CarValueScout app icon will appear on your home screen

Installing on Android

  1. 1. Open Chrome and go to carvaluescout.com
  2. 2. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right
  3. 3. Tap "Add to Home screen" or "Install app"
  4. 4. Tap "Add" or "Install"
  5. 5. The app will be installed on your device

Can't Find the Install Option?

Make sure you're using a supported browser:

  • • iOS: Safari (required)
  • • Android: Chrome or Firefox
  • • Desktop: Chrome, Edge, or Safari

⚠️ Common Error Messages

502 Bad Gateway Error

Cause: The app is using outdated cached files from a previous version.

Solution: Click the Generate Report button again.

"No Internet Connection" Message

Solutions:

  • • Check that you have an active internet connection
  • • Try switching between WiFi and cellular data
  • • Restart your device
  • • Make sure CarValueScout isn't blocked by parental controls or VPN

App Won't Load / Stuck on Loading Screen

Solutions:

  1. 1. Force close the app and reopen it
  2. 2. Clear your browser cache (see 502 Error above)
  3. 3. Check if carvaluescout.com loads in your browser
  4. 4. Try using the website instead of the installed app

"Invalid Login" or Can't Log In

Solutions:

  • • Double-check your email and password for typos
  • • Use the "Forgot Password" link to reset your password
  • • Make sure you verified your email after signing up
  • • Try logging in through the website: carvaluescout.com/login

💳 Payment & Credits

Credits Not Added After Purchase

This usually takes 1-2 minutes. If credits don't appear:

  1. 1. Log out and log back in
  2. 2. Check your email for a Stripe receipt (confirms payment went through)
  3. 3. Wait up to 5 minutes (our system processes payments in batches)
  4. 4. If still missing after 5 minutes, contact support with your Stripe receipt

Payment Declined

Common reasons:

  • • Insufficient funds
  • • Incorrect card details
  • • Card expired
  • • Bank blocking the transaction (try calling your bank)
  • • International cards sometimes require approval

Try using a different payment method or contact your bank.

Charged Twice / Duplicate Charge

If you see duplicate charges:

  1. 1. Check if one is a "pending" charge (will disappear in 1-3 days)
  2. 2. Look at your credit balance - were credits added twice?
  3. 3. Email us with your Stripe receipt and we'll investigate

Request a Refund

We want you to be satisfied! Refunds are issued for:

  • • Technical issues preventing app use
  • • Accidental duplicate purchases

What Do I Need to Get Started?

  • • A smartphone, tablet, or computer
  • • The CarValueScout app installed
  • • At least 1 credit in your account

Connecting Your OBD-II Scanner (Optional)

  1. 1. Plug the OBD-II scanner into the car's OBD port (usually under the steering wheel)
  2. 2. Turn the car's ignition to "ON" (don't start the engine)
  3. 3. If you don't have a scanner, test drive to an auto parts store that offers free OBD-II scanning, then write the codes down and key them into the app in the OBD-II code field

Generating a Report

  1. 1. Enter the OBD-II codes that you found
  2. 2. Enter the vehicle information (Year, Make, Model, Mileage, ZIP code)
    • • Alternative: Enter VIN, Mileage, and ZIP code
  3. 3. Scan for diagnostic codes (if you have a scanner, you can scan. If not, use codes from auto parts store)
  4. 4. Complete the 50-point visual inspection checklist
  5. 5. Tap "Generate Report"
  6. 6. Review the valuation and repair costs
  7. 7. Download the PDF to share with the seller

🔧 OBD-II Scanner Issues

Scanner Won't Connect

  • • Make sure the car's ignition is ON
  • • Check that the scanner is fully plugged into the OBD port
  • • Some older cars (pre-1996) don't have OBD-II ports

Which OBD-II Scanner Should I Buy?

Shop Amazon for the most economical scanner. Typically around $30.

Any Bluetooth OBD-II scanner will work with CarValueScout.

No Codes Found / "System Ready"

This is good news! It means:

  • • No check engine light codes are stored
  • • All systems passed emissions tests
  • • The car appears mechanically sound (from OBD perspective)

Continue with the 50-point visual inspection to complete your report.

👤 Account Issues

Forgot Password

  1. 1. Go to carvaluescout.com/forgot-password
  2. 2. Enter your email address
  3. 3. Check your email for a reset link
  4. 4. Click the link and create a new password

If you don't receive the email within 5 minutes, check your spam folder.

Didn't Receive Verification Email

  • • Check your spam/junk folder
  • • Add no-reply@carvaluescout.com to your contacts
  • • Try logging in - you may already be verified
  • Contact us to resend the verification

How to Delete My Account

To delete your account and all associated data:

Email us with the words "Delete Account" in the subject line. We'll process your request.
